When was the last time you went for a long hot morning jog before going to work? Did you go home, take off all your sweaty clothing and then dress for work? Or if you showered, would you shower without using soap?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many new companies specializing in “disinfecting” popped up. Much like roofing companies did after a terrible Hurricane. What is disinfecting and can anyone with a spray bottle and rag get into that business? (Okay, no more stupid questions, I promise!). Disinfectants are chemical agents designed to inactivate or destroy some microorganisms on inert surfaces. Disinfecting does not necessarily kill all microorganisms’ especially resistant bacterial spores. It is less effective than sterilization.
Back to my comparison of not showering after a sweaty jog…. If an environment was contaminated by a dangerous, highly contagious virus, disinfecting would be as useless as showering without soap. Newly founded disinfecting companies know this, thus for legal reasons, they avoid using the term “sanitizing” and “decontamination.”
Another point I would like to inject, because blogs are supposed to be 500 words and I’m at 195…..
Disinfecting is much more than spraying and wiping. Or as I like to call it; “Spraying and smearing.” Every disinfectant has its own level of strength. All claim on their front label; 99.99% effective. That means nothing if not applied properly. Every disinfectant lists (on the back label) a “dwell” time.
Dwell times vary from 1-10 minutes. A bacterial cluster on a hard surface is called “bio film.” It is important to understand the destruction of a bio film will only be determined if the dwell time is followed. Do these disinfecting companies follow the prescribed dwell time? Are they using foggers or sprayers effectively to distribute their chemicals? (Rhetorical questions).
A few new companies are disinfecting with Ozone machines. Forget my showering analogy, that’s more like putting lipstick on a pig. Disclosure; as a long-time Dallas Cowboy football fan, I have always loathed the Philadelphia Eagles. As a decontamination company, I view ozone machines with less regard.
I don’t know which end of the COVID-19 pandemic we currently face. I believe if a homeowner, business owner or whomever is concerned about the safety of their family, employees or work associates, hiring the right company to provide a healthy, safe environment should be taken seriously. My company decontaminates. The abridged definition of decontamination; the removal of ALL contaminants.
The strength of my solution, and process it’s administered, requires no wiping or dwell time. While most anti-bacterial solutions claim to be 99.99% effective, my solution is hospital grade (log six), 99.9999%.
Lastly, do not overpay for disinfecting or decontamination. Call me directly for more information. 713-298-1449.
